Mai Tiến Dũng: “I struggled when I came Vietnam to sing”

Singer Mai Tiến Dũng recalled the difficult period, the effort when returning Vietnam to sing, in the talk show “Identify” of the Star newspaper.

Mai Tiến Dũng was recently noticed when she participated in The masked singer Vietnam with the character of God Deer. The songs Người như anh (Hùng Quân), Không ai hơn em đâu anh (Hứa Kim Tuyền), Rung động (Vũ Khắc Anh)… attract huge views on his YouTube Channel. On this occasion, he accepted to participate in the Identify talk show series organized by the Star newspaper . The male singer talked about the journey of identification in the hearts of the public.

According to the artist, his singing path is favorable at the starting point but not always smooth. At the age of 18, he was lucky enough to enter the final of the competition for young talent of an overseas center. After a few times as a trainee to try out music and hone his skills, he was signed to be a singer, walking on a professional path.

“In four years of singing, I only had one show every month, which made me bewildered whether I could pursue a long-term career. When I performed the song Như vẫn còn đây (Phúc Trường), it was unexpected that the audience was well received and the career is flourishing,” said the singer.

In 2017, he returned home to participate in The Remix program with the hope of conquering the Vietnamese music market. According to Mai Tiến Dũng, when working abroad, he sings from country music, lyrical to pop, ballad, and dance. In the country, he has to think about how to shape his name and voice in the hearts of the audience. “I began to listen to people’s needs. I was confused between whether I prepared a tray of rice for the fans to enjoy or served at their request. I went through many hardships and struggled to find a direction. suitable,” he said.

Mai Tiến Dũng was disappointed and wanted to give up his goal when he returned Vietnam to sing and returned to the US. The singer said: “When I struggled and doubted my choice, my parents called me to ask, ‘Have you thought it through?’ Tóc Tiên also advised me to persevere in pursuing work. Through many difficulties, I think behind each person’s success is the encouragement of family and relatives.”

In the talk show, Mai Tiến Dũng also revealed that his friendship with Tóc Tiên started 10 years ago, when both were new singers on the overseas stage. “To me, Tóc Tiên is more than just a friend. I consider her as a soul mate, like a younger brother. We’ve been together for more than half of our musical journey,” the singer said.

On the first day of meeting Tóc Tiên, Mai Tiến Dũng was impressed that it was a new young voice from Vietnam, with a good musical background and education. However, he felt that the girl was cold and quiet, even though she still greeted politely. The distance between the two was only broken when Tóc Tiên opened his heart to share family stories. “The two of us were in the same situation, going to school and working, so I invited Tiên to stay with me,” Mai Tiến Dũng said.

Later, Mai Tiến Dũng and Tóc Tiên gradually separated to pursue their own direction, but they still kept their beautiful friendship. A few months ago, the two reunited when participating in The Masked Singer . His appearance touched advisor Tóc Tiên, reminiscent of stories about the two’s youth.

The singer said that after the show, he looked back on his music career and realized that the standards he had set before were sometimes not balanced with tastes, did not really listen to the audience.
