Ngọc Châu performed the costume “Chieu Ca Mau”
Miss Ngọc Châu first performed “Chieu Ca Mau” – the outfit she brought to Miss Universe 2022 – at the event on the afternoon of December 20.
She said she was proud to bring the colors of Vietnamese craft village culture. The costume was made by designer Nguyễn Quốc Việt and his team over the past six months. Chieu Ca Mau won the first prize in the national costume contest at Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 in June.
Inspired by the cultural beauty, the people of the long-standing mat weaving village in Ca Mau, the costumes are made entirely from slices – wild plants that grow naturally – friendly to the environment. The slices after being cut will be dried by artisans, dyed from the bark, then woven into mats.
The part of the shirt is sewn in the form of “Ao Dai”, with stones attached. The mullet-shaped skirt is arranged in layers like a roof. The tail of the long dress is attached with a metal thread to create a shining effect, and the four edges of the shirt are attached to create a geometric pattern. Designers use thermal printing to create projection patterns, use stitching techniques to wrap edges, create 3D creases, and enhance the wearer’s figure.
The wing part has pleats to create 3D blocks, is coated with zinc, erected like a fan spreading the meaning of affluence and prosperity. Each bundle of attached slices is dyed multiple colors. The hat is made of fine rattan material, the top of the hat is a star symbol, and is attached with more than 200 swarovski stones.
Mr. Trần Việt Bảo Hoàng – representative of the unit holding the copyright to send candidates to the contest – said that among the Vietnamese beauties coming to Miss Universe, Ngọc Châu received the biggest investment. In November, she spent three weeks training skills and body in the Philippines with expert Carlos. At the end of December, she continued to go to the US for a week to improve her ability to communicate and behave.
Ngọc Châu said: “After being trained and equipped with skills, I am now much more confident. Before the great competition at the competition, I will keep my energy stable, maintain my form, and always progress. forward”.
Designer Chung Thanh Phong will make evening gowns for Ngoc Chau in the semifinals and finals. In addition, she also received the companionship of more than 40 other fashion houses such as Công Trí, Thủy Nguyễn, Phương My, Lê Thanh Hòa, Đỗ Mạnh Cường, Hoàng Minh Hà, Lê Ngọc Lâm, Nguyễn Minh Công, Cường Đàm…
Her full name is Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Châu , hometown Tay Ninh, born in a family with three siblings, before her is an older sister, then a younger brother. In 2018, she tried at the Miss Supranational Vietnam contest and was crowned, then continued to compete at Miss Supranational 2019, entered the Top 10 finalists and won the title of Miss Supranational Asia. In May, she was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam, won the right to compete Miss Universe 2022.
This year’s contest will take place in New Orleans, USA at the beginning of January 2023, the final night will be held on January 14. The reigning Miss Harnaaz Sandhu , from India, will crown her successor.
