Tuấn Hưng: “My wife makes more money than me”

Singer Tuấn Hưng said he doesn’t mind being mocked, earns less than his wife, is willing to stay at home to wash and take care of children.

Tuấn Hưng is about to hold a live show “Chị Tôi”, sings with singer Thanh Lam , on October 29 and 30 at the Vietnam-Xo Friendship Cultural Palace in Hanoi. On this occasion, he talked about life at the age of 44.

How does Tuấn Hưng’s normal day go?

For the past three years, Tuấn Hưng hasn’t run as much as I did when I was young. I started to select programs, spend time at home, rest, and take care of my children. Every day, I try to get up at 6 o’clock to take my three children to school, and pick them up in the afternoon.

My family has drivers, maids, assigning this job to them is very simple. However, I want to accompany him in important moments. As adults, many of us still vividly remember the breaking moment when we saw our loved ones at the school gate. Moreover, I don’t want my children to feel sorry for themselves when their friends are picked up by their parents and they are not.

At home, Tuấn Hưng also do many things such as changing clothes, bathing my two sons. With my daughter, I have the principle of not touching her body, so I often let her grandmother, mother or helper help. I know how to cook basic dishes for family meals, often in the kitchen. The time the children go to school, I spend on myself and music.

Limited show, how is your income?

Tuấn Hưng still sing, mainly in Hanoi. I don’t want to act far away because as long as my father is away from home for two days, the children constantly ask questions and urge them to return. With programs organized on weekends, I take advantage of bringing my wife and children along. Or if I accept an invitation to tour abroad in the summer, my whole family will combine travel. I confirm that my salary is high, and there is no shortage of invitations to perform.

However, for the time being, Tuấn Hưng choose to take care of my family. My wife now has a business, earns better than me, but I am still the mainstay, the one who keeps the stability in the house. My children respect and fear their father more. In addition, I find myself quite skillful, able to reconcile and connect all relationships between relatives. I treat my wife’s parents with all my heart, and they treat me like their own child. Looking at what I do, my wife also gets along well and is filial to my parents.

Tuấn Hưng know on social networks, many people mock me for being inferior to my wife, but I don’t care. If I had noticed, I would have argued with them already. I am very busy right now, taking care of my family, and cherishing many plans with music.

How has becoming a father of three changed your personality?

Tuấn Hưng am more patient, mature and calm. Before, I was hot-tempered, outspoken, and more impulsive. Taking care of Su Hào (8 years old), Son (5 years old), Sâm (3 years old), I often find myself like an osin, with rumpled, untidy clothes. Each child has a different age, a different schedule of activities and studies, and different interests. I am strict but never scold my children, only explain and punish them when they do wrong.

Tuấn Hưng used to love luxury cars, brand names. There was a period, when I saw a beautiful car, an expensive watch, I couldn’t help but buy it. Now I’m almost insensitive to flashy things. I sold the most expensive supercar. A few days ago, my new wife bought me a large displacement motor. Now she buys whatever clothes I wear.

When you are a parent, your first priority will be your children, when you see beautiful clothes and toys, you will want to buy them. In addition, my wife and I also have to plan to take care of our children to study and develop in a good environment.

What helped you keep your marriage happy for the past eight years?

We, like many couples, have experienced the first three turbulent years. Two different personalities, when living in the same house, it is difficult to avoid collision. Thinking back, I also don’t remember what the couple quarreled about, mainly because of their point of view, the little things in everyday life. When we got mad, when we couldn’t control our emotions, we also said goodbye.

However, after the quarrel, both husband and wife calmed down and understood each other better. The important thing is that we are willing to speak our thoughts, opinions and change for the other half. Moreover, as a man, I always take the initiative to reconcile and appease my wife. Up to now, we rarely quarrel, partly because the couple lives with their children’s grandparents, so they don’t want their parents to be bothered.

What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your wife?

Actually, in life, Tuấn Hưng not a romantic person. However, I still want to make my wife happy with the little things. The days of celebration of every woman in the family, I never forget. I also like to watch romantic movies, learn some of their romantic actions.

Last year, on the occasion of October 20, I got up at 5 am, drove to the flower market in West Lake to buy fresh flowers, and then came home to bouquet. I opened the video tutorial to follow, but the results were not good, looking like a bunch of people, my mother and wife still had to accept it (laughs).

Receiving the position of Vice President of Hanoi Young Artists Association, how do you balance work, music and life?

The first time I took on a new role, I found it strange, and humorously thought: “Tuấn Hưng is full of tattoos, now he is a union cadre”. Going to a meeting, I took a long-sleeve shirt and covered my tattoo. Participating in the activities of the Vietnam Youth Union in Hanoi, I do more volunteer singing. When I’m busy, I also have to meet online.

The purpose of the association’s activities is the same as what I want – to support young artists, to help them have more playgrounds. That’s also why the music show Balcony Corner at my house was born. In the future, I hope the performances here are more diverse. In addition to young music, the audience can enjoy more traditional music.
